Dermal Filler Pre-Treatment Instructions & After Care Guide

Dermal fillers are a great way to enhance your natural beauty by providing a little extra volume and shape to refine your best facial features. Before you come in for your Filler treatment at our clinic, it is important that you follow these instructions to ensure that your treatment goes smoothly without incident.

Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers Pre-Treatment Instructions

Pause Certain Supplements and Medications:

3-5 Days Before: Please stop using or consuming the following:

  • Aspirin

  • Ibuprofen (such as Motrin, Advil, Aleve)

  • St. John’s Wort

  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids (Fish Oil)

  • Vitamin E

  • Ginger

  • Ginkgo Biloba

  • Ginseng

  • Garlic

  • Alcohol

  • Green Tea

Prescription Medications: If you’re on prescription aspirin or blood thinners, please continue taking them unless permitted by your physician.

Cold Sores Precautions:

If you have a history of cold sores, please consult with your physician beforehand to get specific advice tailored to your situation. Your doctor can provide guidance on any preventive measures or medications that may help reduce the risk of an outbreak and ensure a comfortable treatment experience.

Avoid Dental Work:

To ensure optimal results and avoid any potential complications, please refrain from undergoing any dental procedures for at least 2 weeks before your treatment.

Dental work can sometimes cause inflammation or sensitivity in the mouth area, which might affect the treatment area or overall healing process. Allowing a 2-week period between dental procedures and your treatment will help ensure that your skin is in the best possible condition and can heal effectively without additional stress or interference.

Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers Aftercare Instructions

The results of a dermal filler treatment are immediate, and usually last between 6 and 18 months. To ensure the best results and a smooth recovery, please follow these aftercare instructions

What’s Normal After A Dermal Filler Procedure?

Due to the anaesthetic in the filler gel, you may feel a numbness or tingling sensation immediately after the treatment procedure, and have some moderate swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness over the areas treated. Some people may experience a dull ache, and tenderness over the treatment areas which goes away between 48 and 72 hours. Mild, non-painful swelling can last for up to 2 weeks. Bruising is usually visible initially, then more obvious the next day before fading 7 to 14 days following the treatment. In uncommon cases, bruises may last 4-6 weeks.

How To Protect Your Results & Reduce Side Effects After Getting Dermal Fillers

Avoid exposure to UV light and heat for 48 hours after getting dermal fillers, as this may increase discomfort and swelling. This includes visiting a sauna, steam bath, sun bed, hot showers, or strenuous exercise for example.

Keep the treated area cool with a cold compress, but do not apply ice directly as this can cause injury to the skin

Try to avoid unnecessary pressure on the areas treated, especially for the first 24 hours

Avoid facial massages or skin resurfacing treatments until the area has healed fully.

How To Reduce Your Risk Of Infection After Getting Dermal Fillers

Reduce your risk of infection and adverse reaction by not touching the area for a minimum of 6 hours after treatment. Do not apply make-up over injection points until the day after the procedure.
